The Danish Working Environment Authority
The Danish Working Environment Authority - Arbejdstilsynet - is working for a safe and healthy working environment in all companies in Denmark.
Purpose and responsibilities
The Danish Working Environment Authority (WEA) is an agency under the auspices of the Ministry of Employment. The Danish Working Environment Authority contributes to the creation of safe and healthy working conditions at Danish workplaces. This is done by:
- Carrying out inspections at companies
- Drawing up rules on health and safety at work
- Providing information on health and safety at work
The powers of the Danish Working Environment Authority
The Danish Working Environment Authority has the authority to penalise enterprises, which do not comply with the working environment rules. Regarding clear violations of the substantive rules of the Working Environment Act, the Danish Working Environment Authority has the power to issue administrative fines. In cases of extreme danger, the Danish Working Environment Authority may also order the work to be suspended.
The responsibilities of The Danish Working Environment Authority are based on the Working Environment Act and related Executive Orders.
