If a foreign company is to perform work in Denmark on a temporary basis, the company must notify the Register of Foreign Service Providers (RUTI about itself and its tasks. This also applies in the case of companies which do not have real activities in their home country.

Self-employed persons without employees only need to notify RUT, if they provide services to construction and building companies or within the installation or repair of machinery and equipment.

Notification must be made by no later than the time at which the work is commenced, while any changes must be sent no later than the first working day after they occur.

Documentation for notification

Once the foreign company has notified RUT, it will receive a confirmation receipt containing a RUT number. The company should then cite this number whenever they have contact with the Danish authorities.

If the work concerns construction, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, gardening or cleaning, the foreign company must provide documentation to the assignor in Denmark confirming that it has notified RUT. This may, for example, be a copy of the receipt from RUT.

The company may also provide the assignor’s email address when notifying RUT. In that case, the assignor will automatically receive a copy of the receipt.
