Exposure scenarios for hazardous substances

Manufacturers and importers of substances in the EU are responsible for registering the substances with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), as well as for preparing exposure scenarios for hazardous substances as a part of this registration.

There are requirements for the preparation of exposure scenarios for hazardous substances manufactured in, or imported to, the EU in quantities above 10 tonnes per year.

Communication of information in exposure scenarios

Communication of information about substances: Manufacturers and suppliers must ensure that substances sold in Denmark have an exposure scenario in Danish annexed to their safety data sheets. This is a requirement when the substance has been registered with ECHA.

Communication of information about mixtures: Suppliers of mixtures must pass on information about the various exposure scenarios for the constituents in the mixture. Suppliers of mixtures can pass on the required information in three ways:

  • Suppliers can incorporate the relevant information about the exposure scenarios in the safety data sheet for the mixture and provide users with only the safety data sheet.
  • Suppliers can prepare an exposure scenario for the mixture and enclose it as an annex to the safety data sheet for the mixture.
  • Suppliers can enclose the exposure scenarios for the constituents as annexes to the safety data sheet for the mixture.
